Get Students Active

Mappt is a great excuse to get students out of the classroom and into the field.
By giving students a more hands on experience, they are more likely to understand how GIS applications are affecting the way we work in the field, than by reading it from a website or textbook.

Geofencing

Mappt’s geofencing tool marks out inclusion and exclusion zones to prevent your students wandering off in the field.
If they breach a geofence an alarm will notify them and the event will be logged in Mappt.
Geofences are essential for marking out sites such as dangerous areas, heritage listed land or just to let them know they have ventured too far.

Students can customise the data they collect through colours, attributes, and line styles, making them create a personal and completely unique dataset.
Because Mappt is downloaded onto Android devices, it’s light and agile enough to be stored in a student’s bag and carried around all day, unlike other field-specific computers.

Drop down forms are used in the attributes feature to create a list of options to choose from when recording information.
For example, if you want students to search for specific minerals you can create a drop down form listing the ones you want your team to find. Once a mineral on the list has been found, they can select it from the list as opposed to typing in the name every time.
Drop down forms cut down repetitive tasks, reduce human errors, and give you consistent data faster.

Once back online, students can easily send their data to Google Maps or Google Earth and then embed it into a website in just a few taps.
Alternatively, students can send you their collected data via email or upload it onto Google Drive directly from Mappt.
